Word groups,homonyms,synonyms,and antonyms

Hey guys! J. Today we are going to discuss about word groups, homonyms, ,synonyms, and antonyms .

Well, words are related in many ways :-D . Sometimes they have similiar sounds but different meanings, such as steak ( = a slice of meat ) and stake ( = a piece of wood driven into the ground as a mark ). These are called HOMONYMS.

Other words are closely associated in meaning, such as victory ( = the defeat of an enemy ) and triumph ( = a briliant victory ). These are called SYNONYMS.

Certain words carry opposite meanings, such as optimist ( = one who hopes for the best ) and pessimist ( = one who expects the worst ). These words are ANTONYMS.

Learn to distinguish between homonyms in order to avoid confusion in spelling which will result in such “boners” as, “ I feel a little horse today.“ ( horse = an animal ; hoarse = husky voiced ). Use a variety of synonyms to make your writing more vivid and colorful by avoiding the deadly monotony of sameness: “ It was a nice party . We all had a nice time. I wore a nice dress and a nice pair of shoes”. Build up your vocabulary by learning the antonyms for a word whenever you consult the dictionary; for example, when you look up revere, you will find the following antonyms : despite, defame, dishonor, revile.

Two or more words that are pronounced alike but are different in spelling and in meaning are called homonyms. Ok,let’s see some examples of homonyms :
